TWO FACES

Reginald James Lloyd is an accomplished potter, stained glass artist as well as a talented painter, largely self-taught he was a member of the Royal Institute of painters and his work can be found in many museums in England and abroad. He treats his canvas as if it were a slab of stone - still part of the earth yet also treats it as if it were a stained glass window with light filtering through and then as if it were clay - clay fluent or clay - crisp each piece modelled by hand. A dark lady dominates the mood of Shakespeare's sonnets, so does the figure of a personable young woman haunt the paintings of R.J.Lloyd. She has been with the artist for some time, bringing into his pictures an element of unfathomability. What she is, why she is there, is probably a matter which even the artist could not explain.
